In 1899, Alphonse Mucha created the Primrose and Feather lithographic panels, inspired by a Brothers Grimm tale from 1807. The story revolves around two sisters, Feather and Primrose, who suffer from loss and grief. Feather rejects suitors and escapes to the forest, where a sorcerer transforms her into a white swan. Primrose embarks on a mission to save her sister, capturing the sorcerer disguised as a black swan. Here, Mucha's artwork captures the distant sensuality of Feather, symbolizing her unattainable nature. This image also appeared in posters for the J Royer printing company. Born 1860 in Moravia, now the Czech Republic, he rose from humble beginnings to become an internationally celebrated master.
