Margaret Landers Sanford (1848–1938), born in Massachusetts, showcased artistic talent early on. After studying art in New York City, she became a prolific illustrator, contributing to numerous books and magazines, spanning travel, fiction, and children's literature. Alongside her illustrious career, Sanford shared her expertise as a painting teacher for many years.
