BLANK INSIDE

At first glance, you might mistake this charming girl, delicately illustrated by Margaret Tarrant, for Little Red Riding Hood, and it's an understandable mix-up! However, her true story unfolds in The Wood Elf, a tale featured in the 1930 publication of The Story Wonder Book for Boys and Girls. This enchanting collection encompasses a diverse array of classical and lesser-known children's stories, though it also regrettably includes some outdated narratives that no longer align with modern sensibilities. Yet, shining through the pages are stories authored by women of the era, complemented by beautiful illustrations predominantly crafted by talented women illustrators. This amalgamation provides a unique window into the storytelling and artistic contributions of women during that period. See this image on an Encouragement Greeting Card!

Margaret Tarrant (1888-1959) was a distinguished English artist, nurtured in an artistic milieu as the daughter of Percy Tarrant. Her creative journey began with the illustration of Christmas cards, postcards, and calendars, setting the stage for her remarkable career. However, it was her enchanting book illustrations that truly catapulted her to fame. She's perhaps best known for her exquisite work on The Water Babies (1908), where her artistic prowess breathed life into the story's magical world. Her artistic legacy is defined by her unique ability to transport viewers to a world where fairies, fantasy, and the wonders of childhood reign supreme.
