INSIDE GREETING: Happy Halloween
This cautious pup has been a star in our Halloween Collection for years! He originally graced the cover of Life magazine on October 23, 1931, captivating readers of the 1930s as the beloved character Sinbad, brought to life by the talented artist Edwina. He was not just a cover model but a beloved character featured prominently in the magazine's comic strips and later appeared in books! Edwina, a true canine enthusiast (just like us!), frequently incorporated her love for dogs into her artwork. See this image as an art print!
Edwina Dumm (1893-1990) signed her comic work as "Edwina," an influential American cartoonist and illustrator who made history as America's first full-time female editorial cartoonist! Breaking gender barriers in the male-dominated cartooning field, she left an indelible mark on the world of comics. Her most notable creation, Cap Stubbs and Tippie, a comic strip that ran for an impressive 50 years from 1918 to 1968, showcased her sharp wit and talent for crafting engaging characters. Her work inspires cartoonists, particularly women, and her legacy is a powerful reminder of the pioneering spirit that has shaped the world of illustration and editorial cartoons.
