This image is from a promotional poster for a working magician who was active in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, performing under various names: Zanzic, Zan-zic, Zan-Zig, Henry Andre, and Professor Slater. Though he appears competent here, he's most remembered for his misfortunes on stage: he lost an eye and some fingers in separate instances due to tricks gone wrong! It's a fascinating history for a fun birthday card!
