Rockwell Kent (1882-1971) was an American artist whose creative spirit knew no bounds. Abandoning early architectural studies, he became a celebrated painter, illustrator, and graphic artist. His distinctive style emerged from extensive travels to remote landscapes like Alaska and Greenland, capturing nature's raw beauty through realist paintings and graphic works.
Kent gained prominence for his illustrations of Herman Melville's Moby Dick and his versatile artistic output. He created wood engravings, murals, advertisements, and satirical drawings for publications like Vanity Fair, working under the pseudonym "Hogarth Jr." His art celebrated the rugged spirit of human experience against the backdrop of wild, untamed landscapes.
