The Comics Journal, called Carlson “an under-appreciated, largely overlooked cartoonist, illustrator, game designer, and graphic artist extraordinaire” with a “playful, surreal world.” These cards offer a puzzle to solve as well as a picture to color. They were first published in John Martin’s Magazine in the 1920s.
