OUTSIDE GREETING: Think BIG, It's Your Birthday

BLANK INSIDE

Here's to a birthday fit for the big top! This scene is from Little Peewee or Now Open the Box, a delightful Little Golden Book published in 1948, brought to life by the talented author Dorothy Kunhardt and illustrated by J.P. Miller. The story revolves around Peewee, a diminutive dog who begins his journey as the star of a circus. However, as Peewee grows to a regular size, he loses his status as the main attraction. But there's more to Peewee's story as he experiences another twist, growing to a giant size and regaining his spotlight as the circus's star!

John Parr Miller (1913–2001), not to be confused with the playwright J.P. Miller, played a significant role in shaping the enchanting world of children's art and literature. His early career was as an animator for the legendary Walt Disney during the Golden Age of Animation. He was among a select trio of artists entrusted to establish Disney’s Character Model Department, marking his prominence in this iconic animation studio. After World War II, the esteemed Little Golden Books came knocking, recruiting Miller and other Disney veterans to infuse the charm of animation into children's books, making them accessible to a wide audience. The results were nothing short of magical! His illustrious portfolio includes beloved titles like Little Red Hen, Little Peewee, The Marvelous Merry-Go-Round, Tommy's Wonderful Rides, The Circus ABC, and many more! These works define the quintessential Little Golden Book style, ensuring that many more generations of children will cherish Miller's legacy.
