Description

BLANK INSIDE

This delightful card has a fun background story! It originates from the January 25, 1911, cover of Puck, the first successful humor magazine in the United States, known for its colorful cartoons, caricatures, and political satire. Illustrated by Gordon Ross and aptly titled An Old Acquaintance, the image features two mermaids engaged in gossip about the actions of a third mermaid, who seems to be flirting with a man on an ocean liner. We're thrilled to add this charming piece to our Marvelous Mermaids Collection.

Gordon Ross (1873–1946) stands as a notable American artist during the early 20th century. Born in Scotland, Ross immigrated to the United States in his early years and went on to establish himself as a skilled illustrator. Known for his meticulous attention to detail and ability to capture the essence of diverse subjects, Ross produced illustrations for various publications, including works by esteemed authors like Mark Twain and Lewis Carroll.
